At the Vise

I am not sure what this is or if it will be good for anything... or if I will be able to cast it.

But it is sleeting and I had some balsa lying around.  I think it is about 6 inches long and consists of a balsa head, lots of legs and a big ol' stinger hook connected with some beadalon and beads.  Maybe the bass will be hungry for a small snake?

  1. When I went to bob clousers talk on bass he made an interesting point about poppers. He said the head should sit about half way down in the water. The back half of the popper should be submerged just under the surface. The reason the head should be half under the water is so when you strip the fly it disturbs more water. He found foam was having the flies ride too high so he started putting 2.0 wire in the slit for the hook in the foam then glued the hook in. This let the fly ride deeper.

  2. I like it. I am not sure how well this rides but I can tell you that it is hard to cast with a 7 weight.

    1. Size 2- Pretty sure in the future I am going to snip the back hook instead of the front- so far I've gotten some gnarly hits on this with a fairly awful hookup ratio. Fish seem to like the size of it.
